Halftime report: Colorado has not scored yet against USC

The No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) currently trail the USC Trojans (2-3, 1-2 Pac-12) 14-0 in Los Angeles.

Freshman quarterback Steven Montez started his third game straight in lieu of senior Sefo Liufau, who is healing up from an ankle sprain.

Montez is 12-of-19 on passing, with no touchdowns so far.

Junior wide receiver Bryce Bobo has been the main target of the game for the Buffaloes. He’s caught seven passes for 43 yards.

The Buffs have had trouble finding a groove on offense. The defense opened the game by forcing a turnover at the goal line, stripping USC quarterback Sam Darnold as he entered the end zone. Senior defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon recovered the ball.

The Trojans’ defense has done a solid job of containing Colorado’s wide receivers. At the same time, junior tailback Phillip Lindsay has had trouble earning decent gains.

Darnold has shined. He’s only had three incompletions out of 17 pass attempts and has tossed 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Liufau entered the game late in the second quarter, as Montez was escorted off the field after getting hit.

The CU Independent will have a full game report after the clock expires.
