This past weekend, the University of Colorado womens lacrosse team was in California to play St. Marys University and the University of California.
On Friday, the Buffs dismantled St. Marys University, winning 21-5. Sophomore midfielder Marie Moore and sophomore attacker Katie Macleay both scored 4 goals in the game. Moore also had a total of three assists in the game.
The Buffaloes started strong taking an 8-1 lead within the first fourteen minutes of the game. At halftime the Buffs still had a strong lead (14-2).
The second half was more of the same, and the Buffs beat the Gaels 21-5.
Throughout the entire game CU had 34 shot attempts, while the Gaels only had 16. The Buffs played well on both defense and offense, with their only negative spot being the 22 fouls amassed by Colorado throughout the game.
The Buffs then went on to Berkeley, California to play the University of California. Unfortunately, this game did not go as well for CU. Although the contest was close throughout, the Golden Bears came out on top and beat the Buffs 12-10.
Despite the Golden Bears taking the lead in the beginning of the first quarter, the Buffs took a four-point lead late in the quarter to make it 8-4.
Sophomore midfielder Darby Kiernan gave the Buffs that four-point lead with a goal in the last six minutes ofthe first quarter. It was also Kiernans third goal of the game. She had a total of four by the end of the day.
At halftime the Buffaloes were up 8-5, but the Golden Bears came into the second half of the game strong. Halfway through the second, Cal tied the game 9-9.
From there, the Golden Bears offense took off and Cal took the win 12-10. Both teams had many shot attempts, CU with 22 and Cal with 23. But the Golden Bears had 9 saves in the game and the Buffs only had 3.
The Buffaloes play their final two games of the regular season next weekend at home. They will be playing Fresno State University on Friday, April 24 at 3 pm, and the University of Oregon on Sunday, April 26 at 1 pm, with both games at Kittredge Field.
