Five students issued summonses for vandalizing Norlin Quad

Five CU students were issued summonses by the CU Police Department after being accused of vandalizing property with spray paint on and around Norlin Quad.

According to a CUPD news release, at 3 a.m. on Friday, two CUPD officers stopped five students for crossing the corner of Broadway and Pleasant Street against the red pedestrian traffic signal. One of the students placed cardboard stencils and a can of black spray paint on the sidewalk as officers approached. Another told officers in an interview that the group had spray-painted messages around Norlin Quad.

The students, Audrey Campbell, 21; Travis Fischer, 21; Melissa Sandor, 20; Sara Salakari, 19; and Jacob Rice, 19, were all issued summonses for Graffiti Prohibited under Boulder’s municipal code.

Facilities management crews were sent to clean up the graffiti around the quad. A total of 42 messages were found on and around sidewalks on the quad, which referenced “strikes” on “5/1/12 MAYDAY.”

The students may face by up to 90 days in county jail and a $1,000 fine for the municipal offenses.
