Former CU president Elizabeth Hoffman accepted the postition of executive vice president and provost with Iowa State University. Hoffman was the school's president from 2000-2005, where she made $400,000 a year. At ISU she will be making $275,000, at the position offered to her by Iowa President Gregory Geoffrey.

Marijuana possession was hotly contested at the town hall meeting at the Denver University campus Tuesday night. John Suthers, the state's attorney general, debated with Mason Tvert, representing the organization SAFER choice, on Amendment 44. This amendment, if passed in November, will make legal the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana for persons 21 years of age and older.

This week the African Union committed to postponing their withdrawal from the war-torn region of Darfur, western Sudan until the end of the year. The AU had originally intended to finish their mission in Sudan on Sept. 30, and much of the international community hoped that a UN peacekeeping force would take their place.
