Halftime report: Colorado gains large lead on Oregon State; Montez out strong

After a big win on the road against Oregon, the University of Colorado Buffaloes football team is looking to win two straight Pac-12 Conference games in a row for the first time under head coach Mike MacIntyre.

The Buffs host the Oregon State Beavers at Folsom Field, and at halftime, seem poised to achieve that goal and move to 4-1 on the year. Colorado leads OSU 37-6 at the halfway mark.

Freshman quarterback Steven Montez started in favor of senior Sefo Liufau, who’s nursing a sprained ankle sustained at Michigan.

Montez has been electric so far. He’s completed 12 of 18 passes for 252 yards and has tossed three touchdowns.

Junior wide receiver Shay Fields, Jr. has stolen the show. He’s received all three of Montez’s touchdowns today and has five receptions for 160 yards with two quarters left to play.

Colorado’s ground attack has been solid, too. Junior tailback Phillip Lindsay has gained  50 yards. His colleague, sophomore Kyle Evans has chipped in 33 yards of his own.

Offensively, the Buffaloes have out-gained the Beavers by a 363-138 margin. CU has averaged 8.25 yards per play so far.

Shortly before halftime, sophomore linebacker Rick Gamboa picked off OSU’s Conor Blount for a pick six to put the Buffs up 36-6.

The CU Independent will have a full game report up after time expires.
