The Thursday night exhibit featured the art of seven CU students, which spanned a variety of distinct styles, including digital collages, psychedelic paintings, nature photography, and graffiti inspired by classic hip-hop. The event also included free pizza and a DJ.
Spark Boulder is a non-profit, co-working space for CU students and Boulder entrepreneurs. For a membership fee, students use the space to collaborate on business projects. The organization provides services such as a mentorship program, workshops, conference rooms, legal services, computers, and printers.
Jake Hurwitz is the marketing manager of Spark Boulder and was the driving force behind the exhibit.
“This is all non-profit,” Hurwitz said. “So, all the catering and events and what-not are people that I knew that decided to help us out, free of charge. The artists get 100% of the profits.”
Nick Swann was one of the artists featured at the exhibit. His artwork, which has garnered attention on Facebook, helped to draw crowds of students to the event. He noted the casual nature of the exhibit, “I just came in with my roommate. We just kind of hung them how we wanted.”
The pieces that were not sold will continue to be displayed at Spark Boulder, which lost its artwork in a recent flood.
“The biggest goals were: A) to fill the space with some awesome looking stuff and B) to give the artists a chance to show their stuff off to the world.”
