CU Student Government appointed Juliette Bourdier to the vacant Representatives-at-Large seat in addition to welcoming newly elected legislative members to the Legislative Council round table Thursday evening.
Having not been voted into the legislative position, which is one of nine that represents the entire Boulder campus, Bourdier, a PhD student, collected nearly 300 signatures on the day of the meeting to substantiate her case. Her appointment was the first topic on the council’s agenda.
Bourdier served as a senator for the CU graduate school for the past two years, she said, and was hand-picked for the position by her predecessor, Caitlin Duffy, after Duffy graduated in December.
“She picked me because Representative Duffy was a theater major and an artist, very creative,” Bourdier said. “She wanted to be replaced by someone who is an artist. I’m a painter, and she likes my paintings.”
The France native spoke multiple times during the weekly meeting in the UMC and said that she will continue to serve the interests of diversity and equity in her new position.
“I used to sit on that side,” she said, pointing to the row of conference chairs opposite her. “I’m excited to be over here.”
Her position as United Government of Graduate Students senator will be filled in the coming weeks.
