After coming up short against the Oregon Ducks on Friday, the Buffs redeemed themselves Sunday morning by defeating the New Mexico Lobos, 5-2.
Colorado started the match strong by taking the doubles point. At the No.1 position, junior Michala Hedelund Jensen and senior Abbie Probert defeated New Mexico’s Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva 8-2.
The victory marked Probert’s 59th career doubles win.
The Lobos took the victory at the No.2 position, but Colorado freshmen Carla Manzi Tenorio and Winde Janssens secured the overall doubles point by taking down New Mexico’s Kristin Eggleston and Laura Richardson, 8-6, at the No.3 position. Janssens and Tenorio remain undefeated in doubles play for the spring season.
The Buffs wasted no time at the singles slots, earning victories at the No.1, No.2, No.3 and No.5 positions. Probert, who just missed her 40th career singles victory on Friday against Oregon, reached that goal by defeating New Mexico’s Michaela Bezdickova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No.1 position.
Freshman Kristina Scheich took down Anya Villanueva, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) at the No.2 position, taking her fourth straight victory in singles matches and her fifth in six matches.
At No.3, Hedelund Jensen overcame Nikolina Grbac, 7-5, 6-4, and at the No.5 position, Tenorio swept Michaela Oldani, 6-2, 6-0.
The Lobos’ only singles victories came at the No.4 and No.6 positions, as New Mexico’s Kristin Eggleston defeated CU junior Ania Anuszkiewicz and Ashley Bonner took down CU freshman Kristina Barber.
The Buffs leave Colorado for the first time this spring season on Friday, Feb. 25, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday and the Rice Owls on Saturday.
