CU President Bruce Benson announces public phase of the Creating Futures plan.
The goal of the Creating Futures plan is to raise $1.5 billion in private funds to support scholarships, faculty and program enhancements, privately funded research and facilities, said Benson in a newsletter.
In the newsletter, Benson said that the Creating Futures plan is CU’s most aggressive campaign as of yet.
“[Creating Futures is] the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the University of Colorado’s 135-year history,” Benson said in the newsletter.
According to the newsletter, the public phase of the campaign will add more focus and add further value to the CU system.
Benson said in the newsletter that he and his wife, Marcy Benson, will chair the campaign.
“We are confident of success given the much-appreciated help from volunteer leadership on our campuses and the work of professional fundraising staff,” Benson said in the newsletter. The campaign, which began July 1, 2006, has raised $900 million to date.
In the newsletter, Benson describes the $1.5 billion goal as “lofty yet achievable” in the face of tough economic times.
“What these contributions will do is to continue to strengthen a foundation for what we call our pillars of excellence and impact,” Benson said in the newsletter. “They encompass all we do at CU: learning and teaching, discovery and innovation, community and culture, and health and wellness.”
