It seems college students today are dealing with more complex psychological and mental problems than ever before. These problems can be as typical as difficulties in a relationship or a bad test grade and may stretch to more severe problems such as depression and thoughts of suicide.

Fundraising for the Lucile Berkeley Buchanan endowed scholarship is now up and running in honor of the first black woman to graduate from CU. Berkeley Buchanan was the daughter of slaves Lavina and James Fenton Buchanan. Her family moved from Virginia to Denver between 1881 and 1882.

For the second year running, the Hawkins and Homies ticket lost the University of Colorado Student Union elections. Last Friday, the results of this year’s contentious elections were released and Thomas Nelson Rowe and Kyle Alan Hawkins of the Hawkins and Homies platform once again failed to take the UCSU executive positions.

Matthew Furnish, a freshman international affairs major who was arrested on April 19 following a police seizure of two guns and a knife from his Kittridge West dorm room, was formally charged Wednesday with three felonies and a misdemeanor. Furnish was charged with three felony counts of illegal possession of weapons, which include the two firearms and the knife.

Duke University Law Professor Erwin Chemerinsky spoke about the current threats to freedom of the press at the Wolf Law Building on Tuesday evening.
As part of the 50th Annual John R. Coen Lecture, Chemerinsky spoke about how the media’s voice is silenced and the effect this will have on the public.

Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for Asian studies has integrated more languages into its program.

At around 4 p.m. on Monday, the CU Police Department recieved a call reporting an incident that occurred in the ATLAS building.
The victim of the incident met with a policeman and reported that a student, who had asked her out numerous times, had threatened her with a pair of scissors in her office area.

The talents of the students in the dance program are coming together from April 20 to 22 for the Student Dance Concert. The annual concert is comprised of 10 original pieces featuring modern dance, ballet, performance art, Irish step, lyrical and jazz. Each performance includes an all student cast.

State lawmakers are putting the final touches on next year’s $17.8 billion budget and have included provisions allowing Colorado universities to raise nonresident tuition rates higher than the prescribed limit for the 2007-2008 school year. Budget restrictions currently levy a 7 percent limit on tuition increases per year.

City of Boulder parking tickets are a bummer. Not only do you have to fork over hard-earned money, but you have to either drag yourself up to the Justice Center or spend another $.39 on a stamp on top of the fine. This isn’t the only option for paying this fine anymore.
