The choices for this week’s Album Thursday are:
“How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” by U2 (2004)- The 11th album by the Irish rock band went back to their traditional rock roots, and with the help of catchy tunes like “Vertigo” and “City of Blinding Lights,” U2 won all eight of their categories at the Grammy Awards.
“Genius Loves Company” by Ray Charles (2004)- For his final studio album before his passing later that year, the Genius performed duets with some of music’s biggest stars including Elton John, James Taylor, Willie Nelson and Norah Jones. Their collaboration “Here We Go Again” won Record of the Year at the 2005 Grammys.
“American Idiot” by Green Day (2004)-Punk rock band Green Day’s 7th studio album included the catchy singles “American Idiot” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” reaching iPods in 26 counties and claiming the top spot in 19 of them.
“Black and Blue” by the Backstreet Boys (2000)-The Backstreet Boys were becoming men on this album by their own material like “Shining Star” and “The Answer to Our Lives.” But they group also had help from hit maker and longtime collaborator Max Martin on songs like “The Call” and “Shape of My Heart.”
“Say You Will” by Fleetwood Mac (2003)-Despite the absence of longtime member Christine McVie, the band was able to do what it does best: Create catchy songs like “Say You Will” and “Peacekeeper” that kept their fans asking for more.
