Horrible Bosses 2, the sequel to the hugely popular Horrible Bosses, came out in theaters last week. The film stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis. The CU Independent spoke with the trio prior to the release date about the film.
In the movie, main characters Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to launch their own business. But, an investor (Christpher Waltz) soon steals their business plan. Desperate not to lose the company, the three kidnap the investor’s son (Chris Pine) in an attempt to regain control of their company.
Though the hilarity of the first film will be tough to top, Bateman said he hoped that the cast and crew have accomplished that goal.
“What we didn’t want to do is make a film that was not at least as good as the first film, and we worked really, really hard to attempt to do that,” Bateman said. “I think you’ll like it as much and hopefully more.”
“I’m pretty fair about being objective and, you know, I really enjoyed the first just as a viewer,” Bateman said. “I watched this one with that same perspective and I genuinely liked it even more than the first. So I’m actually feeling kind of bullish. If people see it the way I see it they’re going to be very happy with this one. So, I’m feeling good.”
Day echoed Bateman’s sentiments.
“I’m hopeful that they’re really going to like it,” Day said. “I expect people to be skeptical and I hope that they’re pleasantly surprised.”
Because of the first film’s success, the sequel attracted a lot of new on-screen talent. Bateman explained how it felt to have so many new cast members wanting to be a part of the second Horrible Bosses.
“It was really cool to work with all those different people,” Bateman said. “Everybody seemed to really understand what we were making and it made for a good thing.”
In agreement, Sudeikis provided his opinion on working with all of the new cast members.
“It’s really flattering when you make the first movie and have it exist and then when you’re making the second one to have people say, ‘Oh yes, I want to be part of that,’” Sudeikis said.
Horrible Bosses 2 is currently playing at the Century Boulder Theater in the 29th Street Mall.
