The men’s lacrosse team found themselves in the middle of a three-game losing streak after losses to No. 1 Grand Canyon, No. 4 Chapman and No. 17 Michigan State.
The Buffs righted the ship last Saturday against No. 24 Davenport with a 14-10 win, with freshman midfielder Colin MacIlvennie leading the way. MacIlvennie tallied five goals, while attackmen John Clayton and Ben Wharton each chipped in three. Five different Buffaloes had an assist in the game, paced by senior midfielder Doug Graves’ three. Freshman goalie Jensen Makarov got the win in goal with nine saves.
Two days earlier, Colorado dropped a close one to No. 17 Michigan State, 7-6, for their third loss in a row. Both goalies were solid, with Makarov saving 19 of 26 shots on goal and Michigan State’s Matt Allemang recording 18 saves. Goals by Clayton, MacIlvennie (who had two), Graves and sophomore midfielder Matt Milne were not enough to edge out the Spartans. Clayton also added two assists in the game for a total of three points.
Colorado (9-3) will go on the road for three Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference games in Utah. First up is No. 20 Westminster (3-3) on Thursday, April 9th at 4:00 p.m.
