CU Student Government’s Legislative Council will vote on a bill that would allow CU students who are studying abroad to vote in student government elections.
The bill would next be voted on by the general student populace in the spring 2015 elections, as it would require a change to the CUSG’s constitution.
“Many of the study abroad students are still paying student fees if they are on an exchange program,” the bill states. “These students need to be allowed to vote while abroad, as they are still CU students with Student ID numbers and are affected once they return.”
The right to vote would only apply to students who are in CU-approved programs.
“My argument to that is that they would be returning to campus and would be just as affected by CUSG as everybody else,” KJ Wright, the CUSG election commissioner and an accounting major, said.
“I’m stoked about this. I hope it passes,” the legislative council vice president, Noha Kikhia, said.
