A sexual assault anonymously reported on Wednesday was the latest in a rising number of sex offenses reported to the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department in the last six months.
Since Aug. 2, 2013, six sex offenses have been reported to CUPD, according to the department’s Clery Act archive. One of the six was later determined to be a false report.
From the months of August through the following July of the three years prior, the campus police department logged just one sex offense reported to them per year. CUPD also shared information with students regarding a few offenses that the Boulder Police Department or Boulder County Sheriff’s Office investigated near campus.
CUPD could not be reached for comment.
Like all public and private universities that participate in federal student aid programs, CU is required under the 1990 Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act to disclose information about campus crime and security. CU sends Clery Act updates to students, staff and faculty in emails and retains online the reports dating back to 2010.
