CU Boulder police arrested a man suspected of burglary and stealing women’s underwear in three incidents over the last month on Monday night, a news release from the campus police said.
Jonathan Rubeck, a freshman psychology major and resident of Smith Hall, was arrested during an investigation that followed two reports between Saturday and Monday of stolen women’s underwear, one of which occurred in his dormitory.
Rubeck, 18, is also suspected in the Smith Hall burglary and possible sexual assault that occurred the morning of Nov. 10, the release said. Two women, dorm roommates in Smith, reportedly woke up twice to an intoxicated man in their room. One of the victims said he may have been masturbating on her when she woke up.
CUPD established Rubeck as a suspect on Monday. They obtained and executed a warrant to search his dorm room, which produced evidence leading to an interview later that day.
“Information obtained during that interview, along with physical evidence found in Rubeck’s room, led to his arrest at approximately 9 p.m.,” the release said.
CU Police Deputy Chief Melissa Zak said it appears that Rubeck acted alone.
Rubeck was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony burglary and one count of misdemeanor theft and taken to the Boulder County Jail.
CUPD is continuing the investigation and ask that any potential additional victims call the CU Boulder Police Department at 303-492-6666.
Police encouraged dorm residents to always lock their doors, especially at night.
