Milkshakes becomes more appealing with Colorado’s rising temperatures. Here are the top five milkshake joints in Boulder to help quench your thirst.

Located on the east end of Pearl Street, H Burger has a collection of six milkshakes that never leave the menu. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, strawberry-mint, chocolate-peanut butter fudge and Nutella-marshmallow shakes are offered. During different times of the year, seasonal shakes are added to the menu, like Girl Scout Samoa or the shamrock shake. The shakes are chilled with liquid nitrogen, making for a dense, creamy texture and smoke to lift, with the exception of the Nutella-marshmallow shake, in which marshmallows are toasted on top. They also offer adult milkshakes with different types of liquor to accompany the different shakes.

Starlite Diner turns back time with retro decorations and oldie-but-goodie milkshakes. They offer chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and caramel. Each milkshake is decorated with whipped cream and sprinkles, served in a glass cup and topped off with a cherry, bringing a pleasant, throwback aesthetic to the Starlite shakes. These shakes are thicker than most, which ice cream-lovers would greatly appreciate. Plus, the location of the diner makes it a great place to get a shake after catching a movie on the 29th Street Mall.

Two Spoons, on the west end of Pearl St., has a milkshake for everyone, each made from the store’s selection of in-house gelato made from scratch using natural and organic ingredients. Milkshake flavors depend on the various gelato options they have, like malt chocolate chip. Combinations of two flavors is allowed so the perfect milkshake may be created. These shakes have a good, creamy consistency, and the freshness can be tasted in every sip without the shake being overpowering.

Larkburger makes choosing a milkshake flavor for $5 shake easy with their small-but-mighty list of options. They offer the three basic flavors for milkshakes: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Each shake is hand spun with handmade ice cream from local favorite Boulder Ice Cream. The texture of these shakes are milky, rather than a dense cream, making them a great choice for people who prefer something less filling but still delicious.

Boulder Baked is known for “desserts that deliver,” which includes their wide range of odd milkshake flavors. In store, the list of milkshakes ranges from the normal vanilla shake to a more complicated blueberry or chocolate fudge brownie. The chocolate fudge brownie has pieces of fresh brownie, which are made in store, along with fresh fudge and ice cream blended smoothly together. Boulder Baked shakes have a good, medium consistency of not too milky or thick, with an array of calm shakes to rich unique shakes.
