The University of Colorado women’s basketball team beats the Oregon State beavers 61-47 Friday night at Coors.
The stands were flooded with pink in honor of the annual “Play 4 Kay” game to support breast cancer awareness. Junior guard Brittany Wilson says that the team used this for inspiration to fight as hard as the cancer victims do.
“It was breast cancer awareness game, and coach talked about attacking,” Wilson said. “Because that is what breast cancer patients have to do, so we came out attacking.”
The win gives the Buffs a 17-5 overall record, with a 6-5 record in the Pac-12. The Beavers move to 9-14 overall and 3-8 in the conference.
This is the fourth home win for the Buffs in a row. Senior guard Chucky Jeffery says it’s very important to win at home.
“We always have to take care of the home, and we have been working on being enthusiastic and helping each other,” Jeffery said.
Jeffery had another great night for the Buffs, receiving her 1,500th career point and 26th career double-double. Jeffery says those statistics are not as important as the win to her.

“I mean it does (matter to me), but at the end of the day I am just glad my team won,” she said. “I just try to do what I can to help my team get a win.”
The Buffs had some great stretches, with some big leads, but it was their defense that kept them in it says Brittany Wilson. Wilson had a great game with five steals to contribute to her teams 17.
“We knew we had to [play strong],” Wilson said. “You cannot give a team like that confidence. We just had to play our defense, and that is our staple right now.”
Oregon State freshman Jamie Weisner kept her team in the game with her 21 points. The Beavers shot 32.1 percent from field goal range.
The Buffs held their lead from start to finish, showing their strong team attitude.
The team plays again at Coors on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against the University of Oregon Ducks. There are only three home games left in conference play before tournament play begins.
