As entertainment editor here at the CU Independent, I want all of our readers, to have an awesomely entertaining week. Here are my picks for this week, so you’ll never have to worry about being bored.
EVENTS
Tuesday
Any event with the word “extravaganza” in its title has to be good, and the Peace Corps Extravaganza looks like it won’t disappoint. Starting at 6 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom, this is a free celebration of CU-Boulder being the No. 1 university in the country for Peace Corps volunteers. Snacks, refreshments and entertainment will be provided, along with the opportunity to visit with returned Peace Corps volunteers.
Friday
The Herd’s Annual Nearly Naked Mile is the only occasion where running naked around campus is actually sanctioned by the university, so take advantage while you can. From 7:30 to 10 p.m., The Herd will provide free food and hot drinks to those participating in the run outside of the Koenig Alumni Center. Runners are encouraged to donate all the clothes that they arrive in, making this one of the University’s largest clothing donation drives. Who knew public nudity could do so much good?
SEASONAL ACTIVITIES
Nothing says Halloween more than a freshly carved pumpkin. Cottonwood Farm’s Pumpkin Patch (1535 N. 75th St.) is the perfect place to pick up this holiday staple. Open daily 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., this family farm also has a free two-acre corn maze and sells all kinds of organically grown squash from its farm stand on property.
MOVIES
Friday
With an interweaving plot and all-star cast, “Cloud Atlas” looks to be one of the more interesting movie releases this year. Based off of the bestselling novel, “Cloud Atlas” consists of a storyline containing multiple narrative strands within different historical time-periods, resulting in what could be a spectacular piece of art — or just a spectacular headache.
MUSIC
Monday
Much to the joy of eagerly awaiting fans, Taylor Swift will launch her new album, “Red,” on Monday. Containing such hits as “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “Begin Again,” the deluxe edition’s 24 tracks are sure to provide enough country-pop pleasures to pacify even the most rabid of fan for awhile.
