When asked to be the subject of this week’s Fashion Forward, Kristina Mitchell seemed to be taken by surprise. Her unawareness of her fashionista status was remarkable given that Mitchell sports an offbeat haircut, a nose ring and a scarf that could easily belong to a chic Parisian.
Even though Mitchell fits the description of a fashion-insider, it turns out that she never really gave it much thought.
When asked to define her style, Mitchell hesitated for a while.
“My style changes most days,” Mitchell said. “I just roll with it.”
Although Mitchell takes a relaxed approach to her wardrobe, one can easily see that her hair is a different story.
Mitchell’s raven-colored locks are cut into a short pixieish hairdo. Delicately framing her face, her hair is swept to one side. The remainder of her mane is cut very short. From every angle, you’re pleasantly surprised by a new view of Mitchell.
Given that her hair is so entrancing, the question had to be asked. Who is Mitchell’s hair inspiration?
“Robyn the singer,” Mitchell said. “I loved the haircut ever since I saw her music video for ‘Dancing On My Own.’ Then one day, after a horrible haircut from the salon, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’ve had this haircut for a long time now.”
It’s understandable why Mitchell would choose to stick with the same haircut. It’s distinct and it expresses her personal style. Mitchell had difficulties pinning down an exact reasoning to go behind her style.
Mitchell’s carefree attitude towards her appearance is what makes her so in style. Instead of conforming to the campus norm, she took a leap of faith and cut her tresses to resemble those of Swedish pop star Robyn.
When an appearance expresses the inner-self, you’re almost guaranteed to be fashion forward. Take Kristina Mitchell as an example.
