Three days after a 26-0 embarrassment in Columbia, Mo., the Colorado Buffaloes football team learned that they will be without the service of junior tailback Brian Lockridge and junior safety Anthony Perkins for the rest of the season.
Lockridge will undergo knee surgery on the right knee he busted during the Oct. 2 meeting with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Perkins will undergo surgery on a torn ACL he endured in the first half of the game against the Missouri Tigers.
He played the entire game anyway.
“He is a warrior,” CU head coach Hawkins said.
Lockridge will be replaced as the number two running back by sophomore Will Jefferson, who will move over from wide receiver.
“It’s natural to me,” Jefferson said. “I played tailback in high school.”
Perkins’ replacement has not been announced as of yet by the Buffs’ coaching staff.
The Buffs have also made a change in their kicking duties.
Senior Aric Goodman has swung at a Ted-Williams caliber average of .444. However, since Goodman is a kicker instead of an outfielder, he will be replaced by junior place-kicker Marcus Kirkwood. Kirkwood, who played soccer for a small college in California, had the first kick of his CU career blocked in the Missouri game.
And, finally, junior Tyler Hansen will keep his starting duties as the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes.
As for now, Hawkins says it is for better or worse.
