Another rough start was too much for the Buffs to overcome.
The Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team lost their second consecutive game as they fell to the Kansas Jayhawks 75-64 Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse. Both teams are now 12-7 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12 Conference.
Colorado was out-rebounded 27-7 in the first half and made just 38.5 percent of its shots to help give KU a 47-27 lead at halftime. Against Oklahoma State last Sunday, the Buffs trailed 13-4 in the opening minutes.
Despite being down by as much as 24 points in the second half, the Buffaloes managed to cut the deficit to 11 with three minutes left to play. However, it was as close as they got.
Junior forward Brittany Spears led CU with 21 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots.
Senior guard Bianca Smith scored 11 points and became the 23rd player in Colorado history to record 1,000 career points with a 3-pointer late in the first half.
The Buffaloes return home to face No. 6 Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coors Events Center.
