“Let’s Talk About Sex” is a weekly column about sex and relationships.
According to Urban Dictionary, sexting is “the act of text messaging someone in the hopes of having a sexual encounter with them later.” It often includes sending pictures or describing, in detail, one’s deepest desires. When done right, sexting can be a great way to communicate with a partner, and with these tips, you should be on a steamy, fun-filled path in no time.
Cut the cute Emojis out
Your sexting partner is never going to take you seriously if you send him or her cute emojis of monkeys or pandas. It’s also hard for anyone to get horny off of a couple blushing smileys and monster faces. Try sticking with the wink — it’s a classic for a reason.
Use sexting as a pre-foreplay
When sending a message, be a bit explicit, but don’t tell your partner everything you want to happen. Make it a hide-and-seek game of sorts, teasers instead of the main event. This should get your partner wanting more and running to your door.
Talk dirty, but gradually
In telling your partner everything you want him or her to do to you, don’t be afraid to get into the dirty details. But don’t just randomly start saying things that are too sexual — lead into it, or it could spook your partner.
Never sext drunk
When under the influence, it always seems like a smart idea to text your partner. In reality, it is not. In those situations you have little control over what you say to people.
Remember that sexting can be very dangerous, especially if you are doing it with someone you don’t know very well. Sexting comes with the risk of having your photos or messages sent to people you don’t know. Make it clear that it is only a conversation between you and your partner, and always make sure it’s with someone you trust.
