The quarterback spot is the most high-profile position on any football team. So when the starting job is up for grabs, everyone is watching and waiting to see who will stand out from the others. The Buffs have three candidates bidding for the job: senior Bernard Jackson, redshirt freshman Cody Hawkins and junior Nick Nelson, a transfer from a junior college.

While it was widely publicized that this past Saturday’s basketball game between CU and the Nebraska Cornhuskers was head coach Ricardo Patton’s last game at the Coors Events Center, he was not the only man on the court saying his final farewell. After CSU’s punt, the Buffs gave the ball right back by going three-and-out themselves after a 3 yard carry by Mel Holliday, a 4-yard catch by sophomore Patrick Williams, and a tipped pass intended for junior Alvin Barnett.
CSU’s next possession garnered them their initial first down of the game after 2 running plays and a 4 yard pass to H-Back Kory Sperry.
