Although the cold weather kept some fans away, the crowd at Friday’s Secret Circus comedy show was full of returning fans and new faces.
The show started with local comedian Dave Burdick, 23, and New York comedian Elisha Yaffe, 23, doing a two-person stand-up routine. The two interacted with the crowd the entire night.
“We’re really social people during intermission,” Burdick said. “We get a lot of feedback from people who seem to genuinely like it.”
The show switched from standup to videos throughout the show, including a video called “Space Sketch,” which included Burdick and friend Ballard C. Boyd in a scene where Burdick played a man who didn’t know what space was. It included a montage set to a Poison song, where Burdick received a lesson about what space actually is. Part of the space training included: “Milky Way = yes/Snickers = peanuts.”
The night was full of laughter and technical difficulties.
“I think the show went well,” Burdick said. “We had some minor technical difficulties, but the audience actually enjoyed those things.”
Other sketches included “Blog of the Day” by Burdick’s character, Hal Sparks, who also did a retro news broadcast segment called “News of the Day.” Another sketch included the Yaffe and Burdick as motivational speakers. One of their books was titled: “How to Steal a Car in 30 Days, Piece by Piece.”
“It takes patience,” Yaffe said.
The Secret Circus will return on March 9, in Old Main, with new sketches and videos.
