The Trep Café, a student-run retailer on the upper floor of the Koelbel Building’s William M. White Business Library, will close this fall after 10 years of service to University of Colorado students.
The shop sold snacks, coffee and other beverages. According to a statement from Dean David Ikenberry, the closure comes due to a rise in the “number of federal and state regulatory requirements” and a strained student management team, who runs the café on top of their studies and other responsibilities.
The team wrote a note on the café’s Facebook page citing miscommunication and high turnover in management positions as the source of Trep’s losses and ultimate closure.
Ikenberry wrote that the Leeds School of Business hopes “to bring in a vendor that will continue to provide an on-site option for coffee, snacks and other beverages” that will employ students and offer them a venue to apply their academic knowledge and business skills. There are plans to open a new café this fall.
