Gunfire and stabbing shook the National Western Complex today during the Colorado Motorcycle Expo, resulting in one death and seven injuries.
According to Chief of Police Robert White, two rival motorcycle gangs were “possibly” involved in the violence, which occurred at 12:45 p.m. Roughly 10,000 people attended the expo when the gunshots rang out, and investigators believe two or more people were responsible for the shots. One person was killed by gunfire, three were injured by the shooting, one individual was stabbed, and three others were wounded from injuries likely sustained from a fight.
The total number of victims was unclear for a portion of Saturday afternoon, with Denver Health, a Denver Medical Center doctor and police all providing different statistics. In the interest of safety, the Denver Health Emergency Department experienced a lockdown from the shooting until around 4:30 p.m.
Sunday’s portion of the expo has been cancelled, but events not directly related to the Motorcycle Expo will continue.
