Motet
Motet will bring its funky sound to the Ogden this weekend. This Colorado-based group has influences of electronic, funk, soul, disco and even afrobeat. Motet is currently touring its seventh album.
“We realized how effective a great song is on a crowd,” said drummer Dave Watts in an interview with Boulder Weekly. “Instead of just the energetics we’re used to bringing with improvising, soloing and extended arrangements, we really decided to focus on tunes, because we understand how powerful a great song is.” Interested? Head to the Ogden Friday, Nov. 13 or Saturday, Nov. 14 at 9 p.m. to hear Motet’s distinct sound. Opener: The Main Squeeze.
The Roots
The Roots, one of the most acclaimed bands to come out of the Philadelphia area, will wow the crowd at the Ogden on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Best known for being the in-house band on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, this group blends elements of soul, hip-hop, rock and other genres to create a truly one of a kind sound. The Roots’ enthusiastic leader, Questlove, always ensures a great time for the audience. The band’s performance at the Ogden is liable to leave the audience sore from dancing the night away.
Genetics
Rock out with Genetics this week at the Fox Theatre. This progressive rock band draws inspiration from a variety of genres, which is reflected in their sound. If you want to hear something new, and maybe pick up an interest in a new genre, head over to the Fox on Thursday, Nov. 12. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Openers: Lady and The Gentleman and Vine Street Vibes.
MiTiS
Originally a classical pianist based in Pennsylvania, Joe Torres (MiTiS) has been making a name for himself in the electronic music scene over the past two years. MiTiS’s music ranges from Dubstep to Electro.
“I find myself unable to stop making phat basses, heavy beats, and throwing melodies into the mix,” Torres said according to his bio on the Fox Theatre’s website. “I can’t think of anything else more appetizing; It’s the new age Classical.”
MiTiS will be taking the stage at the Fox Theatre on Friday, Nov. 13. Doors open at 8:30p.m. Openers: Dirt Monkey, Elijah Moore & The Latch Key Kids.
JD McPherson
Vocalist JD McPherson will also be playing the Fox this week. McPherson was influenced by both rock and blues, and is lauded for his loud, gritty and powerful sound. His latest record takes influences from ‘50s psychedelic rock.
McPherson takes pride in his distinct sound. He will be performing at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 14. Doors open at 8 p.m. Opener: Parker Millsap.
Robert DeLong
In the mood to get your groove on? Dance-pop sensation Robert DeLong will be playing the Fox on Monday, Nov. 16. The Los Angeles-based artist is touring his new album In The Cards, which explores an array of emotional concepts through an inviting, chilled-out sound. If you’re curious to hear some cutting-edge tunes, don’t miss out on the chance to see DeLong. Doors open at 8 p.m. Opener: Coleman Hell.
