You’ve probably heard Tove Lo’s song “Habits,” or the remix more popularly known as “Stay High” (feat. Hippie Sabotage). The Swede’s alternative-pop sound is, in many ways, her home country’s response to Lorde. “Habits” is full of relatable lyrics about heartbreak and its subsequent coping methods.
Tove Lo originally released the single in March of last year, but it only recently started charting, following the release of the remix. The song was included on her EP, “Truth Serum,” which did fairly well in her home country of Sweden.
In addition to writing music for herself, also occasionally writes for other artists, contributing songs to the most recent albums of Icona Pop, Cher Lloyd and Lea Michele. Her songwriting prowess and initial releases have gained her a considerable amount of momentum.
Her debut LP, “Queen of the Clouds,” will be released on Island Records in the U.S. and on Universal Records internationally on September 30. “Habits,” her first single, headlines the album and finds a great side-kick with the more recent impact single “Timebomb.”
The album is a moody collection of songs centered on the themes of insecurity, love and pain. Its standout songs, such as “Talking Body,” “Moments” and “Crave,” combine to form one of the best pop albums of 2014. Lo will promote her album by opening for Katy Perry on the superstar’s “Prismatic World Tour” in Australia later this year.
In the meantime, “Habits” is already becoming a hit on radios all over the world.
