TUESDAY, JAN. 22
Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament
You obviously got all your homework done over that four-day weekend, so head to the UMC to play in The Connection’s free weekly poker tournament and compete for prizes and bragging rights. Sign up is at 5:30 p.m. and the game starts at 6:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 23
After a long hiatus, Ben Folds Five is back on tour and promoting its first new album in 13 years, “The Sound of The Life of the Mind.” Check out Nataly Dawn and the North Carolina-based trio at the Ogden Wednesday night. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $42.50; $45 the day of the show.
THURSDAY, JAN. 24
Our football team might be a letdown, but our basketball team usually makes up for it. Cheer the guys on when they play Stanford at Coors Events Center at 8 p.m.
FRIDAY, JAN. 25
Holocaust Awareness Week: Reading of the Names and Survivor Testimony
Wrap up the week on a more serious note by participating in CU’s 29th Annual Holocaust Awareness Week. Listen to the reading of names of those who died in the Holocaust and watch a special presentation by Auschwitz survivor Walter Plywaski. The reading begins at 9 a.m. in UMC Room 235; Plywaski’s testimony is at 9:30 pm.
Following the survivor testimony, Inaugural Sondra D. Bender Visiting Scholar and Keynote Speaker Dr. Deborah Lipstadt will present ”The Impact of the Eichmann Trial: A Perspective after 50 Years,” a look at the outcomes of a German Nazi SS-lieutenant colonel’s capture and trial. The lecture will also be held in UMC Room 235, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday.
There is only one place to bowl in Boulder, so we’re lucky that The Connection does it right. Go extreme bowling with colored pins, colored lights and black lights every Friday and Saturday in the UMC from 7 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $2.75 per person per game with Buff OneCard, and shoe rentals are also $2.75. You can even win prizes for colored head pin strikes.
SATURDAY, JAN. 26
19 Years of Funky Good Times Ft. Pearl Street All Stars
If you are over 21, head to Boulder Theater on Saturday to see Pearl Street All Stars, including George Porter Jr., Kyle Hollingsworth, Dave Watts, Brian J., Cochemea Gastelum and Kim Dawson. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25.
