Even though winter is here to stay, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of cool things to do during your first week back on campus.
Monday, Jan. 14
Monday Night Bowl
Most students may think the University Memorial Center is just for buying books and grabbing lunch, but hiding in the back of the building is one of the best places to hang out on and around campus. Everyone loves bowling, and on Monday nights, The Connection has two hours of bowling for $8. This price includes shoe rental and a fountain drink so you can stay hydrated in the dry Colorado air.
First Day of Classes
You may not like to admit it, but you are probably excited to go back to school. At least the first week will be a breeze, right?
Friday, Jan. 18
Robin Williams at Macky Auditorium
The comic genius is coming to Boulder this Friday to cure all of your winter blues. You may know him from his roles in “Aladdin” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” but when he comes around to perform live, this family-friendly guy turns into a foul-mouthed comedian for a college-aged audience. Watching a big-name comedian such as Williams is a great experience for anyone.
Calexico at the Fox Theatre
If you are into flamenco-infused country – and we know you are – then check out Calexico this Friday at the Fox Theatre. Combining the stage presence of Devotchka and the raucous folk of M. Ward, Calexico is sure to bring a smile to anyone who makes their way to the Fox on Friday. Tickets are $22 at the door and $25 on the day of the show.
Saturday, Jan. 19
NHL Hockey Returns
After a lockout that lasted 113 days, professional hockey has returned. The fastest game on ice returns with some marquee matchups this weekend, including the Penguins versus the Flyers. This matchup will be the first time the two division rivals have met since the brutal playoff series in April. The shortened season – 48 games – should provide excitement from beginning to end.
