On Thursday night, during a public Legislative Council meeting, CUSG voted to enter an Executive Session making the meeting private. They had been discussing the Fair Access and Equality Bill which concerns making student fee money available to the Inter-fraternity Council (IFC).
“Legal Council had sent [us] a five-page memo addressing legal issues with the bill and informed us that we could only discuss the memo and maintain attorney-client privilege if we entered Executive Session,” said Legislative Council President Colin Sorenson after the meeting.
No votes were taken during the Executive Session, which only lasted about 15 minutes, according to Sorenson.
After they returned to a Legislative Council meeting, they did vote on the bill and it failed by a vote of four for the bill, 12 against and one abstaining.
The Executive Session had been called after about four hours of discussing other matters.
CUSG voted to move a bill reforming 38 sections of the council’s bylaws forward to a second reading as well as voting to move an election reform bill back to committee for further discussion. They also passed a bill to rebrand the CUSG logo.
Prior to those votes they also heard from Jon Leslie of the Office of Strategic Relations concerning a new CU tagline. The current choices are: “Unparalleled Excellence,” “Unleashing Brilliance” and “Where Excellence Roams.”
These would be included in nearly everything with the CU logo from the flag of the CU website to banners and promotional material.
