After Saturday’s 48-0 Homecoming clinic put on by Stanford and the 70-14 dismantling given by USC, the fans of CU football are eagerly awaiting November 23rd, when the season is finally over and with it a collective sigh of relief.
It’s been a miserable season to be a fan of the Buffs; many of us have left the games either hanging our heads, or scratching them, wondering “what went wrong?”
Here at the CUI we have attacked the football program from every angle, examined through every possible lens. We’ve drawn conclusions and formed opinions. We’ve been hopeful and miserably pessimistic. Now, instead of trying to figure out why we’re the laughing stock of the NCAA by drawing more far-fetched assumptions, let’s take it to the numbers and let you, the reader, figure it out for yourself:
2012 Buffs:
Record: 1 win–8 losses
Points scored: 145
Points allowed: 416
Rushing Yards Gained: 897
Rushing yards allowed: 2033
Passing yards gained: 1740
Passing yards allowed: 2638
Fumbles: 21
Interceptions: 12
Times QB sacked: 42
Yards lost due to QB sack: 256
Number of drives/drives resulting in touchdowns: 125-19
Number of opponent drives /opponent drives resulting in touchdowns:119-50
Minutes spent in the lead: 59 minutes 39 seconds
Minutes spent behind: 420 minutes 15 seconds
Add all of that up and it’s a tough pill to swallow, and one that Athletic Director Mike Bohn has vowed not to swallow again. In a recent interview with the Daily Camera he said that the winds of change were coming, without exactly saying what that means. If the harsh speculation or wishful thinking prevails, could Jon Embree’s job be in jeopardy? No one really knows at this point, but if the CU football season has been dramatic, the post-season theatrics are going to be a gas.
