Head to the Fox Theatre tonight for Radio 1190’s Pledge Drive Kickoff Party. Denver-based bands Colfax Speed Queen, ManCub, Achille Lauro and Rubedo will provide the entertainment for this fundraiser-turned-party Thursday, Nov. 1.

Colfax Speed Queen will mix soul and rock for an intense, high-energy sound. Naming influences like the Dead Kennedys and Billy Idol on its Facebook page, the 4-piece band will start the show with a heavy rock.
ManCub shifts the scene to electro-noise pop with a lighter, more modern sound, complete with Casiotone keyboards, drum machines and effect pedals. Producer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Anderson is joined by a rotating cast of musicians for his live shows, so don’t miss ManCub tonight.
To shake things up, Achille Lauro will take the stage with what they call “banquet party pop.” The 4-man band boasts a more relaxed, almost old school sound that takes a different approach to pop than most. The band is excited for the chance to give back to Radio 1190, as well as the opportunity to play at the Fox.
“Radio 1190 sponsored the release of our first record back in 2008,” Luke Mossman, 31, who plays guitar and keys in the band, said. “They’ve even had us up for several interviews and co-host sessions since. They’ve been real supportive of us since the beginning.”
Prepare yourself for what they call a “tribal, heart-gripping experience” as Rubedo storms the Fox for the first time. Rubedo’s unique sound, which lead vocalist Kyle Gray, 26, describes as “alchemical psych-pop rock,” will end the show with rich beats and harmonious rhythms.
Rubedo also looks forward to supporting Radio 1190. The band was invited to play an in-studio session for the “Local Shakedown” album, and the station has regularly played Rubedo’s debut album “Mass Confussa” since its release in May.
“We love, love, love Radio 1190,” Gray said. “They have been nothing short of amazing to us.”
Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for 21 plus, $12 for under 21. All proceeds go to Radio 1190 to support its function as an outlet for “music, community culture and education.”
