Walking past the location that used to be Sushi Spot, I noticed a new restaurant known as Geisty’s Dogg House. I was intrigued, and wondered what this place contributes to the food scene of the Hill. Knowing that there would be sausages galore and hearing that there are evenings of 50 cent wells, I knew I would have to try it.
On Monday night, I decided it was time to venture into this new establishment. As I took my first steps into Geisty’s, I knew I was going to like it. The shop wasn’t packed, but it wasn’t empty. I took this as the first good sign that I would not regret my decision. The atmosphere and ambiance were welcoming and fun. As I turned my head there were flat screen TV’s lining the wall featuring college basketball games, which is a good thing to keep in mind when it’s time to watch a game.
My excitement was boiling over as our waitress approached our table. I couldn’t wait to see what the menu would present. Were the rumors of 50 cent wells true? Yes, they were! This 30-minute madness occurs Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30 p.m.-11 p.m. Of course I checked the drink section. I was pleased to see that their pitchers were well-priced, so a pitcher of Blue Moon it was.
Now it was time to get down to the dogs. There are endless options for making your own. You start off with your choice of meat, then add different sauces and relishes, and an arrangement of toppings from caramelized onions and peppers to chili. Rather than make my own, I went with one of the signature sausages known as the “Geisty Dogg.” This dog is all beef with garlic lemon sauce and topped with a fried pickle. Yes, that’s right; there’s a fried pickle on this one.
When our friendly waitress brought our choices to the table, it was time for the ultimate test: the taste test. With the first bite into the “Geisty Dogg,” I knew it was the winning choice. The mixture of fried pickle, sausage and lemon made my taste buds tingle.
As for my friend, his choice was to make his own. The dog consisted of an all-beef gourmet sausage, “bad dogg” mustard, “madd dogg” ketchup and some caramelized onions and peppers on top. As a lover of anything fried, I was biased to prefer my own choice, yet his dog was also delicious. The flavors intertwined extremely well and the onions and peppers brought some nice flavor to the dog without overpowering the flavor of the sausage. Next time I may make my own, as long as I put that delicious fried pickle on top.
With Geisty’s menu of well-priced food and drinks, I can see why there are regulars. Well-priced dogs and well-priced beers makes an amazing place for people to meet up, whether it’s on a weekend for those 50 cent wells or on the weekday for a nice dog and some beer while watching a game. Whether you go Geisty’s for an intimate evening out or dinner with a friend, it’s a good choice for all hot dog enthusiasts. If you’re a sausage lover, try this place out and see for yourself.
