You’ve probably driven past Fresh Baked more than once and never noticed the small discrete building. Through the low door on the backside of the building waits a discrete treasure that—once discovered—is hard to forget.
Fresh Baked, located at 2539 Pearl St., keeps a large stock, almost always more than ten unique strains kept in display jars filled with large, hairy nuggets for patient inspection. The bottom crumbs of their jars get moved to the shake jar, which is never screened for keef.
Every strain is priced the same; $35 eighths, $60 quarters and $200 ounces, before taxes. Having prices remain consistent between different types of marijuana allows patients the chance to try a variety of top-shelf, well-cured medicine to decide what appeals to them the most based on quality and desired experience.
Veteran smokers who have grinders filled to the brim with keef already may decide to pass on the opportunity to purchase more from the store, but those without keef and looking for extra flavor in their bud can purchase a gram for $10.
Trainwreck is one of Fresh Baked’s most popular strains and claim that it is the best in the area. I’m inclined to believe it. This hybrid is a pleasure to look at: the light green leaves and white THC trichomes are almost overshadowed by the orange hairs that dominate the bud. It leaves the smoker feeling relaxed with a pain reducing body buzz that is not immobilizing. The sativa side causes a pleasant, cheery head high.
Durban Poison, a sativa, is a common strain, but perhaps Fresh Baked’s best. When done correctly, as the growers of Fresh Baked have, Durban’s smell is distinct, sharp and citrusy. The high is one of the most enjoyable when with other people. This harvest gives users a euphoric, stimulating feeling that may make them feel particularly giggly.
The P-Phunk is an indica blend that was smoked under the expectation that it would knock me out. It does cause a certain amount of muscle fatigue that is found in all indicas, but it also had a cerebral spark that kept me surfing the net for quite a while before succumbing to sleep. Smoking the P-Phunk is a unique experience, giving users a tingling effect on the back of their throat and spicy flavor that is unexpected but not unpleasant.
As the name implies, Fresh Baked has an impressive and eclectic choice of edibles. Some more unique items include cheese crackers, caramel or cheesy popcorn, whole pies, cheese puffs, and even some gluten free options. They also have all of the staple edibles at average prices like Cheeba Chews (double, quad and decadoses), Sweet Grass Cookies, brownies, and hard candies.
Caviar, a bud soaked in hash oil and then rolled in keef, can be a smart buy if you are smoking by yourself. Just one hit of this plant delicacy will get you extremely high for a long time. However, at $20 a gram, its doubtful patients will be buying this in bulk.
Their hash selection changes with the harvests and production but is derived from their buds, which have been proven to be quite effective. At $15 a gram, it is some of the cheapest hash you can find in town without sacrificing quality.
Fresh Baked is a modest store, their parking lot is unpaved, only accessible when going west on Pearl St., and there’s a pole waiting for your bumper right at the entrance. But if you’re able to find this shack-style dispensary, you’ll be well on your way to an enjoyable high.
