Our criteria are: no clothing by North Face or Patagonia and no fanny packs (all fashion crimes that Boulderites commit, according to GQ). Lyndie Raymond describes her style as, “like I’m still in kindergarten.” She can typically be found in frilly socks, lots of bows and dresses. Raymond said she finds ways to balance her child-like fashion tendencies.
“I have to cleanse with black periods and act a little more grown up,” Raymond said.
Raymond looks for neutrals because of their versatility, but tops them off with glittery accessories and handmade bows.
“I make hair pieces such as bows and flowers and ribbon ensembles,” she said. “There usually just isn’t enough glitter. I also drew a picture of my face on a shirt once, I should probably start wearing that again.”
Between watching fashion week shows and collecting anything related to Minnie Mouse and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Raymond’s style borders on eclectic.
“I’m really into the mouse sweater I’ve had for a couple years, [it’s] so soft!” Raymond said. “I also am a jacket/coat junkie so I love when the temp drops and I’m able to wear my leather motorcycle zip bomber.”

Raymond gets most of her fashion tips from websites such as Pinterest and shops online at Topshop, Modcloth and Etsy. She talked about her favorite designers, which include Alice + Olivia and Marc Jacobs, and excitedly interjected things like, “Can we talk about those glitter Miu Miu shoes?”
Since Raymond is both a Boulderite and a fashionista we asked her why Boulder is so slim on style.
“Everyone has that fresh off-the-mountain feel here,” Raymond said. “‘Oh, I was just hiking. Oh, I just got back from a run. Oh, I was just at the gym. Oh, I was just bird watching. Please excuse my total lack of an attempt to look presentable.’ I think it’s a comfort thing, not necessarily an unfashionable thing. Then again, when has Ms. Wintour [editor-in-chief of Vogue] ever complained of being uncomfortable?”
