Going to the bars is always expensive. What’s a CU student to do? Luckily, a good cause and cheap drinks meet in Trek the Bars.
Trek the Bars is an annual event put on by GlobeMed at CU. This time around marks the fifth semester and this epic bar crawl is doing it big. In the past, Trek has only been on Thursday nights in only a few select bars.
This semester the event was held bothThursday and Friday, and the amount of bars has sky-rocketed. Plus there’s no need to choose between the Hill or Pearl Street. Bars like the Walrus, The Sink, Shooters and Conor O’Neils are offering drink deals.

Great discounts vary by the venue. On Thursday, K’s China had $10 volcanos and $1 kamikaze shots. Friday on Pearl Street, prepare to experience $4 Jaegar bombs at Absinthe House and $3 carbombs at Conor O’Neil’s.
Partnered with the Rooster Magazine, GlobeMed at CU puts on this event every semester for charity. This semester, the proceeds will go to a Himalayan Healthcare program that will provide help to children with severe malnutrition.
In order to participate in the fun, students purchase a $6 wristband for for one day. If one day isn’t enough, there is another deal for $10 for both days. Group prices are 5 people for $25 for one day, or 5 for $40 for both days. This wristband guarantees you quality drinks at cheap prices.
What can students expect from the bar crawl this time around? Rachael Durham, a 19-year-old sophomore anthropology major and active member of GlobeMed at CU is excited for students to experience the bigger and better “Trek the Bars.”
“More bars are offering better deals this time around,” Durham said. “Plus it’s an amazing cause to be involved in.”
Every bar is doing something different for this event. Kristine Gutierrez, a 21-year-old senior political science and anthropology major, talks about how each of the bars are putting their stamp on the Trek.
“The malnourishment that these children suffer is so severe that only a certain kind of fortified peanut butter can actually feed them,” Gutierrez said. “To sort of honor this, Bàcaro on Pearl Street has the PB and J shot.”
Jesse Fife, a 21-year-old senior environmental studies major is excited to be a part of the event.
“Finally, I get to participate,” Fife said. “People who just turned 21 in the past year can get ready for an even better time at the bars.”
Wristbands can be purchased at the GlobeMed at CU table at the UMC Thursday and Friday.
With all of these deals and fun, it’s important to also remain safe. Along with the great group discounts, it’s important to stay with a group of friends.
