Ah, the smell of brand new textbooks is in the air. The Hill is once again crowded with students and as usual, Target is almost entirely cleaned out.
It must be the first week of school, which means there’s a lot going on here in Boulder. While you’re getting back into the swing of things, take advantage of Syllabus Week and check out some of these fun activities happening.
Monday
UMC Bowling

Tuesday
Free Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament
Put those poker skills you picked up in Vegas this summer to use at the UMC Connection’s weekly Tuesday poker tournaments. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and cards start flying at 6:30 p.m. ?Prizes are given away at every tournament and the winner each week snags a seat at the Grand Championship table later on this semester.
Patagonia Rising Film Screening and Discussion
Come learn about the $4.7 billion hydroelectric project, HidroAysen, proposed in Chilean Patagonia in this recently released documentary. The film starts at 6 p.m. in Humanities 250 and will be followed by a Q & A session with the film’s producer, Jonathan Leidich.
Wednesday
Distinguished Research Lecture with Kristi Anseth
Go check out this year’s distinguished research lecture called “The Body Shop,” where you’ll learn all about Anseth’s work in biotechnical tissue engineering. Her research has helped to improve things like the healing of broken bones and replacing diseased heart valves. Lecture runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Math 100.
Warren Miller Wednesdays at West End Tavern
Get geared up for ski season at the West End Tavern. Every Wednesday this fall, they’ll show epic vintage and current Warren Miller films. Come this week at 8:30 p.m. for the kick-off party, which features food and drink specials and awesome door prizes.
Thursday
Thursday Night Fun Run hosted by Team Alchemy
Get out and enjoy the summer nights before they’re gone with a fun, social run through beautiful Boulder. Meet at Newton Running Lab/ Active Imprints at 6 p.m. All fitness levels are welcome!
Friday
Laser Pink Floyd: “The Wall” and Bob Marley
Are you a music fan? Come visit Fiske Planetarium this Friday to see some timeless classics played to a laser and special effects presentation. From 9:30 to 10:30 p.m., listen to Pink Floyd’s The Wall and from 10:45 to 11:45 p.m. enjoy some of Bob Marley’s greatest hits. Admission is $7.
Saturday
Boulder Farmer’s Market
If you haven’t been in Boulder all summer, then you haven’t seen one of Colorado’s most colorful and exciting farmer’s markets. Farmers convene every Saturday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. near the Band Shell on 13th street between Arapahoe and Canyon. Stalk up on fresh fruits and veggies or simply chow down on Boulder’s best local grub.
Michael Jackson Dance Party
Do something different this Saturday night and check out Hotel Boulderado’s third annual Michael Jackson Dance Party. A $10 admission gets you hors d’oeuvres and the best classic beats from the King of Pop.

Boulder Pride Fest
Come honor Boulder Pride at Boulder’s Central Park this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be performances, dancing and celebrating galore.
