Wiffiti provides dining entertainment at Half Fast Subs
As if Boulder really needed another reason to love Half Fast Subs.
Half Fast Subs at 1215 13th St. recently installed a Wiffiti board that allows customers to “text out loud” while hanging out at the restaurant.
Wiffiti — a mix between wireless and graffiti — is spreading across the country. According to the Wiffiti Web site, it is a “new technology enabling people to send text messages to large flat panel displays in social venues.”
If you are at a venue that has a Wiffiti board, send a text message with your cell to the given number and your message will be displayed for the entire restaurant to read and respond to. At Half Fast Subs, text HF2 and a message to 87884 to start messaging about friends, politics, or what you’re getting for lunch.
The message appears within five to 30 seconds from the time it is sent and there is no extra charge for the text.
“It’s really entertaining for all these folks. It gives them something compelling to do while they’re waiting for their food and eating,” Bruce Rush, co-owner of Half Fast Subs, said. “They talk about their classes or just life in general. They just love Wiffiti.”
At the Boulder restaurant, Wiffiti is creating laughter while customers are sending jokes and silly sayings to the board.
Recently posts saying, “Trucker hats are for ninnies and lily pickers,” “Tanner likes green beans,” and “Where’s the party at tonight?” were spotted on the large, flat screen.
One customer wrote, “Your a loser,” to which another responded “learn to freaking spell!”
Becky Schulman, a junior psychology major, said, “The board is really fun. I was just texting a joke about my friend and some guy across the restaurant responded to it. It can also be kind of uncomfortable when people send inappropriate messages up there, but it defiantly makes dinner a lot more interesting!”
The messages are not only visible on the board at the restaurant, but can also be accessed at the Wiffiti Web site, www.wiffiti.com/txtoutloud.
Wiffiti isn’t unique to Boulder. The first Wiffiti board was installed in January 2006 at Someday Caf
