In their final meeting as Big 12 opponents, No. 40 Kansas State blanked CU’s women’s tennis team.
The Wildcats swept the Buffs 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Wamego Recreation Complex in Manhattan, Kan.
“Kansas State is a very good team this year with great results,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “The girls came out and maintained a positive outlook and attitude throughout the entire match.”
K-State’s win against CU was its first since the 2006 season. The Wildcats break a six-match losing streak against the Buffs to gain only their 11th win in 35 matches in the series.
The Buffs (3-13 overall, 0-6 Big 12) have lost their 10th straight – the longest in the history of the 34 years of the program.
KSU won the top two doubles matches to get a 1-0 lead and took straight set winners five of the next six singles positions. Freshman Winde Janssens won her first set 6-2 against Nina Sertic, but dropped the latter two sets.
CU stays on its Kansas road trip as it faces the Jayhawks at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
