The Lefthand Canyon fire, according to Incident Information System, threatens 12 homes, six out buildings and is estimated to cover 200 acres.
Through the use of burnout operations, 100 firefighters have been able to contain 25 percent of the wildfire.
Friday afternoon an air tanker from New Mexico arrived to assist the firefighters. According to the Incident Information System, tomorrow a helicopter will be used to aid the firefighters in containment.
According to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management, firefighters will be setting back burns in order to contain the fire, which will led to heavy smoke.
The subdivision north of the Lake of Pines as well as Lake of the Pines, which previously was evacuated, has been reopened.
Residents with homes from Geer Canyon to Highway 36 are being allowed back into the area.
However, Lefthand Canyon from Geer Canyon to James Canyon remains closed.
According to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management, all access points to Lefthand Canyon as well as all entrance points through the James Canyon and Lee Hill subdivisions have been closed due to the fire.
People with homes south of Lefthand Canyon Drive to Middle Fork Road are encouraged to remain alert and be ready to evacuate if necessary.
The American Red Cross is using the YMCA in Boulder to provide evacuees with a place to stay. However, because of the lack of need, the YMCA will not be providing overnight shelter.
According to the Incident Information System, the fire, which started Friday morning at approximately 10:35 a.m., is thought to be human-caused and continues to be moving east toward the entrance to Boulder County Heil Ranch Open Space.
Friday large animals in the area were being evacuated to the Boulder Country Fairgrounds in Longmont, while small animals were being taken to the Boulder Valley and Longmont Humane Societies for care.
At this time, according to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control is allowing evacuated households with pets to go and retrieve pets with an animal escort.
