The announcement on Hawkins’ departure is scheduled for the team’s weekly Tuesday press conference, according to several media outlets.
The decision comes as no surprise to those who have followed the program in the past few seasons. Hawkins is 19-39, with his best season finish being a 6-7 campaign in 2007.
Linebackers coach Brian Cabral, who was on the staff of CU’s National Championship team, is expected to take over as interim head coach.
During last Saturday’s historic loss at Kansas the Buffs let go of a 28-point fourth quarter lead and lost their 16th straight road game. Hawkins came under heavy criticism for not running out the clock, but instead having son Cody routinely throw with chunks of time on the play clock.
The Buffs are 3-6 and 0-5 in the Big 12 Conference.
