Colorado struggled in Oklahoma this weekend.
The Colorado women’s soccer (6-9-1, 2-5-1 Big 12) lost 2-1 in overtime to the Oklahoma Sooners (9-5-2, 4-2-1 Big 12) at John Crain Field in Norman, Okla. Sunday.
The first goal of the game came in just the third minute. Colorado junior midfielder Kate Russell got her third goal of the season when she headed home junior midfielder Amy Barczuk’s cross. The goal marked Barczuk’s first career assist.
The Buff’s took their 1-0 lead into halftime, despite being outshot 6-3.
Oklahoma equalized in the 67th minute. On the Sooners’ 13th shot of the game, sophomore forward Dria Hampton fired the ball past Colorado freshman goalkeeper Annie Brunner for her fourth goal of the season.
With the score tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play, Colorado went into overtime for the sixth time this season.
In just the first minute of overtime, senior forward Whitney Palmer gave the Sooners the win with her golden goal. Sunday’s loss is the second time the Buffs have lost in overtime.
Colorado will return home to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at Prentup Field Monday, Oct. 25, with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
