With their backs against the wall, the Colorado Buffaloes found a way.
The CU tennis team rallied to beat the Utah Utes 4-3 Saturday at the 2010 ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Berkeley, Calif.
Trailing 3-2 with two matches to go, CU senior Melisa Esposito beat Erin Monson 6-4, 6-3, to keep the Buffs’ (2-2) chances of a win alive.
In the deciding match, CU senior Camila Belassi took the first set 7-6 from Paige Miles by winning the tiebreaker 7-2. But Miles tied it at a set apiece by taking the next set 6-4. Belassi, however, captured the third set and the team victory by dispatching Miles 6-3.
Utah fell to 1-3.
The Buffs began the match with a 1-0 lead by taking 2-of-3 doubles matches. Utah struck back and won 3-of-4 singles matches to take the 1-point lead before heroics from Esposito and Belassi.
CU will return to action next weekend when they face BYU at 9 a.m. Saturday in Provo, Utah and Boise State at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Boise, Idaho.
