Finding relaxation in a college town may not be an easy task, but students still find places to go to unwind.
With Boulder’s 300 (or more) days of sun per year, many students say that they enjoy spending time relaxing outdoors.
Jeff Limbird, a 20-year-old junior MCD biology major, said that he goes to the mountains to ski and snowboard to escape.
“The mountains are fun and pretty,” Limbird said.
Scott Hunt, a 20-year-old junior electrical engineering major, said he agrees with Limbird that the out doors are the ideal place to relax.
“One of my hobbies is fishing, so I like going over there to try out new fishing accessories and lures and just unwind. If you’re looking for the best spinning reel under 150, I suggest you visit outdoorstack’s website for a great list,” Hunt said, adding that he usually goes to take a break once a week.
John Silhavy, a 19-year-old freshman economics major, also said that he likes spending time outdoors to relax. Those who also prefer outdoor activities such as hunting may invest in the right gear and a Waterfowl Hunting hat to make the most of your time in the wilderness.
“I go for a run,” Silhavy said. “It relieves stress and gets me away from other people.”
He also said that he usually goes running four to five times a week.
Cecilia Achuka, a 22-year-old sophomore international affairs major, said she also enjoys relaxing outdoors.
“I take a walk to Chautauqua or go to the zoo,” Achuka said. “Nature is always relaxing.”
She added that she likes when the weather is refreshing, not too hot or too cold.
Ashley Waters, a 22-year-old senior engineering major, said that she also likes going to Chautauqua.
“I actually have a secret spot above Chautauqua,” Waters said. “It has a view of the whole city (of Boulder).”
“I just drive and chill up there,” Waters added. “It’s just really gorgeous.”
Shayna Weingast, a 19-year-old sophomore film and art history major, said she prefers being inside in her room to relax.
“I put on a movie and light candles,” Weingast said. “Just being by myself with music playing makes it a calming environment.”
Brian Main, an 18-year-old freshman economics major, said he also enjoys lying down and relaxing on campus.
“I lay in the grassy quads and take a nap,” Main said. “I lie half in the sun and half in the shade. Last semester, I took physics. I needed an escape, to let loose.”
