The University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD) and the Boulder County Coroner have been investigating a student death at Williams Village East. According to CUPD’s Twitter, police arrived at the scene shortly before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.
On Oct. 4, Boulder County Coroner Emma Hall identified the student as Madalyn Prewett, 19, a psychology major from Fort Collins, Colorado.
Prewett’s obituary confirms that she took her own life on Monday, October 1.
“We don’t blame Madi at all; we have all watched how hard she fought to stay alive,” reads Prewett’s obituary. “We are angry, however, that our poor girl got knocked down time and time again and never got a break. We are angry that she didn’t get to have the life she deserved and worked so hard for.”
“When talking about her or watching videos of her, we feel such a loss that such a vibrant and incredible light has gone out in the world,” her obituary continues.
“We are saddened by the loss of our student and extend our condolences,” CUPD wrote.
CUPD referred students and faculty who may need support to the Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) on campus.
