Portland-based band, My Brothers and I, are set to hit Denver’s Lion’s Lair Lounge on March 8 to promote their new, full-length album, Don’t Dream Alone.
This alt-pop band is composed of brothers David, Erik and Scott Wurgler, along with childhood friends Jordan Roach and Johnny Illiyn. For this quintet, this album is about the idea of dreaming unselfishly. Collaboration was key in writing the songs, with each of the five voices having some form of representation in the music.
My Brothers and I is the sort of band that would narrate a really good day. Each song seems to carry you upward toward a better mood, but the album does not shy away from deeper moods. Songs like “Maddy Brown” spark a romantic tingle and “Fly Away” will mellow you out. There’s a spectrum of sounds that aim to appeal to every mood.
Don’t Dream Alone follows My Brothers and I’s digital-only EP, Live Sessions, under the Portland indie label Expunged Records. Their influences include pop, hip-hop, blues and funk, which all fuse together to create a sound unique to this indie band. They have a youthful bounce to their music, which promises a lively show for concertgoers.
The bassist, Scott Wurgler, intends their live performances to sound just as they do on their album. For My Brothers and I, performing is something they take pride in.
My Brothers and I will be performing at the Lion’s Lair Lounge March 8 at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are currently $6. Contact Lion’s Lair for ticketing information.
