The Main Squeeze is stopping at Boulder’s Fox Theater Friday, Feb. 19, as part of a tour for their new album, Mind Your Head.
Formed in 2010 by keyboardist Ben “Smiley” Silverstein and guitarist Max Newman, the band sounds like a mixture of Stevie Wonder and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now, nearly six years later, the band is rounded out by vocalist Corey Frye, drummer Reuben Gingrich and bassist Jeremiah Hunt.
Each member’s talent combines to showcase everyone’s forte. The band started out in Indiana, refining its sound at casual gigs before touring worldwide in 2014. The Main Squeeze has since then shared the stage with big-name artists like The Roots, Jane’s Addiction and The Meters. They have even played at popular music festivals, including Bonnaroo and Electric Forest.
If you like Jimi Hendrix or the rock and roll genre, you’ll definitely be grooving to The Main Squeeze’s tunes. It’s nearly impossible to stand still while listening to the band’s upbeat and funky style. The band is bringing the funk back, and its fanbase is growing as a result.
This new album, produced by Randy Jackson, follows the band’s 2011 EP First Drops. It continues to carry the retro beats of 70s funk with new age clarity.
Keep Friday night open to go check them out; the show begins at 9 p.m.
