Sturgill Simpson
Country music singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson hits the Ogden Thursday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. Simpson rose from humble roots in Kentucky to stardom. The former leader of the roots group Sunday Valley, Simpson’s success snowballed after his first solo album High Top Mountain gained popularity in 2013. He recently performed at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Austin City Limits music festival in Austin, Texas. Simpson’s second album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music featured the single “Living the Dream,” which showcased his deep voice and country-rock sound.
An Evening With Bruce Cockburn
Canadian-born musician Bruce Cockburn has traveled the globe to perform his humanitarian-themed folk, jazz and rock-style music, and this week he bring this music to the Boulder Theater. Over the course of his decades-long music career, Cockburn has released 31 albums and won 13 Juno Awards. In 1998, Cockburn received the prestigious Canadian honor of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. He has also been given several honorary doctorate degrees from universities across North America. See Cockburn live on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Phutureprimitive
Phutureprimitive, stage name of the singer, musician and songwriter Rain, brings his signature form of entertainment to the Fox Theatre Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. Phutureprimitive blends a multitude of colorful styles to create a hypnotic sound. Since the release of his first album Sub Conscious in 2004, he released several singles and created his own record label, Native Harmonix. Most recently, he released a two-part collection of songs entitled Searching for Beauty in the Darkest Places that adds a dance-floor appeal. Known for interacting with audiences at his shows, Phutureprimitive recently had crowd members write their fears on pieces of duct tape and put them on the bottom of their shoes, encouraging the audience members to “dance out their fears” throughout the concert.
